The River Nanny is the main inspiration behind ‘The Flow of Life’ artwork, planned for Whitecross National School. The river has shaped and influenced the history, heritage, wildlife and communities of the local area.

When I first visited Whitecross National School, in Julianstown, I was immediately drawn to the bright. double height, entrance area. It felt like a blank canvas, just waiting for colour and imagination to bring it to life.

I will be collaborating with Ceadogán Rugs, to transform the artwork, into tufted, wool, wall hangings. Each design will be hand drawn and coded before being enlarged to scale and translated into tufted wool wall hangings.

I have selected colours that are bright and vibrant, to add dynamic energy and warmth to the large open entrance space.

The 5th class students are busy creating designs for the individual birds. Their images will from the inspiration for the students wall hanging. They will all be taught how to use a punch needle to create their wallhanging.

Hopefully the students will enjoy developing their creative skills and collaborating with their classmates to make a unique original wallhanging with their own hands, as they experience the process from a design stage, to the creations and the final hanging of the finished piece from the rest of the school to see and enjoy.
